I am running Windows Vista 64 bit.  Recently there was an automatic update done and since it has been done when the system boots up I get a black screen and an error message saying  "C:\windows\explorer.exe" "The version of this file is not compatible
with the version of Windows you're running"  Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher.  The only way I can get away from the black screen
is to hit ctrl+alt+del and open the task manager.  I can then use ie explorer etc.  How can I do a system restore to restore the computer back to where it worked or where can I get a fix for this issue?

In this method we will try to Boot in Safe mode with Networking and see if the error still persists.

• Search "MSCONFIG" and Open.
• Click on Boot Tab
• Tick Safe Boot in Boot Option
• Select Network.
• Click Apply and OK.
• Reboot your System.
