Cannot Connect to Windows Update on new Windows 7 Professional. Get Error 80072ee2.

Computer is a Dell Optiplex 780 - Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  Everything is working fine except for Windows Update.
After stuff on my old Windows XP SP3 was moved to the new Dell on 2/25 I did get connected to Windows Update and got about  5 updates. Then
on "Patch Tuesday," 3/8, I could not connect and haven't been able to several times since then.  Tech guy worked with it but to no avail.  I have uninstall some software to see if it  was blocking Windows Update but that has not been the case.
Any suggestions
or advice as to how I can fix this would be appreciated (by the way, Microsoft support has told me to go back to Dell, since they feel it's Dell's problem!)
