Computer Error Fixer: Cant get chkdsk /r to run.

Cant get chkdsk /r to run.

I have a hp window xp professional.
Im not sure what service pack i think service pack 3.
My current antivirus is Avria.
Malware is Malwarebytes. The problem started with a improper shut down (I press the power button til it shut down.) My cd rom is still
working.
I have download a bootable xp installation cd.
My system was working fine untill ...something happen with my router and it asked for pass code and i didn't know it and my dad wasn't home, so i tried to turn the computer off the right way but it would let me leave off that screen.
I then pressed and held
the power button till it went off.
Thats when it all went bad.
I pressed the power button to turn it back on and it try to start up the screen came up where it gives you the option on how you want to boot up F8, F9, F10.
and then instead of the windows screen
coming up the screen turns black and it has one blinking white line.
on the front of my computer there is a green and a amber light on the front the green lights up but the amber doesn't.
I came to this site looking for help (especially before my dad gets home).
I read a few post with the same problem as mine one in particular (os Wont Start).
so i tried to do what they told him to do. I down loaded the bootable xp recovery cd and burned
it to disk and put it in the computer.
I followed the direction and it when just like it was supposed to until i had to run chkdsk /r that's where i ran in to another problem.
Every time i trird to run it it would say / was a invalid perimeter. I did some
more read but i always came to the same thing which was to run chkdsk.
sorry so long but i tried to give as much information as i can or as much as i knew.
I would appreciate any help i can get.
i dont mind read so any links or anything helpful would be great.

If what Xp Rocks suggest doesn't work run recovery console again.
This time when you enter chkdsk /r make sure there is a space between the letter k and the forward slash.
That's why you got the invalid command/parameter.
It should be chkdsk (space) /r

Run CHKDSK

Go to the Start button.
In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Restart your computer.
