Creating a template in Word 2010 with macros

I am trying to duplicate a template that was created in Word 2007.  That template has a list of files, with a check box next to each file name, and a "button" at the end of the document that is clicked and creates a new document that includes the checked/selected
files in sequence.  As an example, say there is a list of files A through R; the check boxes next to A, C, D, F, and L are checked, but none of the others.  When the "button" at the end of the list is clicked, a new document file (.docx) is created that includes
all of the text from files A, C, D, F, and L, in that order.
 
How is this done?  Can anyone direct me to some step-by-step directions for creating a similar template?
