I'm attempting to migrate from my company-provided XP to Win 8.  I made the mistake of using the files and settings transfer (FAST) wizard on XP.  Then after backing up,  I wiped the computer.  Problem is:  Windows cannot open the image dat files that
FAST created--not even in  XP.  And my back-up seems to have failed, because most of my files are missing.  My company's IT guys have given up.

I've researched it extensively and it seems to be a long-standing problem here and in the google archives.  Does anyone have any suggestions before I give in to the void?
