I am having difficulty setting up Conditional Formatting on a Monthly/Yearly basis.

For example:

Any date recorded in January = Red
Any date recorded in February = Blue
etc.

There was a slight change in the formulas between starting with a column of data that begins in A2 and selecting the entire column (e.g.
A:A).
If you are selecting a definite range, say A2:A100, then the formula is put in as =MONTH(A2)=1.
Excel will interpret this as A2 being the first cell in the range and every other cell is adjusted accordingly.
If you are selecting the entire column, then you need to use =NOT(ISBLANK(A1))*MONTH(A1)=1 for two reasons.
First Excel sees the first cell as A1 when an entire column is selected, and second, a blank cell gives a month
of 1 due to the 1900 date system.
February, March, etc.
can be simply =MONTH(A1)=2, =MONTH(A1)=3, etc.
